Community

I have always been passionate about community involvement – hands-on engagement rather than humdrum committee work (much of which, important though it is, goes over my head). From organising events to erecting gazebos, manning a
tea urn and cutting the grass, involvement in the community remains important to me both personally and professionally.

My design skills provide, I believe, a boost of colour and character to the identity of
organisations that would be unable to fund professional design services. From posters to websites and from newsletters to social  media, good visual communication is as valuable to a community group as it is to a commercial business.

A long-term resident of Exeter, I have been a committee member and chair of the
Thornton West Residents’ Association in Exeter, a director of the St James Community Trust and I was a founding member of Exeter St James Forum, which was the first organisation in the UK to produce a Government Neighbourhood Plan.
After a recent two-mile move from central Exeter to the nearby estuary town of Topsham, I am currently involved in the work of the marketing team of the Topsham Community Organisation, creating a fresh image a new website, social media presence, posters and flyers to promote awareness of the many wonderful services and events that centre on Topsham’s two vibrant community venues: Matthews Hall and the Dorothy Holman Centre.
